Deborah awarded a Playwriting Fellowship from the NJ State Council on the Arts

Trenton, NJ. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts announced the 2018 Fellowship Award recipients at their meeting in Jersey City on February 15, 2018. The Individual Artist Fellowships are competitive awards to New Jersey artists in 12 rotating disciplines granted solely on independent peer panel assessment of work samples. The anonymous process is focused on artistic quality and awards may be used to help artists produced new work and advance their careers. Deborah was one of six playwrights awarded a fellowship for 2018.

About Deborah Brevoort

Deborah Brevoort is a playwright and librettist from Alaska who now lives in the New York area. She is an alumna of New Dramatists, one of the original company members of Alaska’s Perseverance Theatre, a member of the playwright’s collective at Florida Studio Theatre and a co-founder of Theatre Without Borders, dedicated to international theatre exchange.

After participating in American Lyric Theater’s Composer/Librettist Development Program, Deborah has turned her attention to writing opera librettos. She has penned 10 librettos and now serves as the Librettist Mentor for Washington National Opera’s American Opera Initiative at the Kennedy Center.
