Libretto by Deborah Brevoort/Music by Johann Strauss.

Johann Strauss’s comic masterpiece has been transported from 19th century Vienna to contemporary Alaska in Deborah’s new adaptation commissioned by the Anchorage Opera. Set in the world of reality TV, The Polar Bat is a story of seduction, revenge and deceit where everyone is chasing the camera trying to win a spot on the latest Alaskan reality TV show. Prince Orlofsky has been transformed into Charlie Gould, a Hollywood producer, and his famed ball into an audition, filled wiith political and business figures trying to out-Alaskan each other. In addition to spoofing all things Alaskan, Deborah’s adaptation is a send-up of celebrity culture and a comic exploration of how far we will go to perform our identities.

“A new version that will have you falling in the aisles with laughter.”   —Lively Arts, Alaska
