Deborah’s backstage farce about democracy, THE VELVET WEAPON, is the winner of the Trustus Theatre’s 2013 national playwriting competition. Over 400 plays were submitted to the contest; Trustus Theatre will do a staged reading on August 10, 2013 and a full production in August of 2014. THE VELVET WEAPON is inspired by the Velvet Revolution of Czechoslovakia. Deborah traveled to the Czech and Slovak Republics with a grant from CEC Arts Link to conduct interviews with 43 ringleaders of the Velvet Revolution with her then-collaborator Pavel Dobrusky. The play was written with a playwriting fellowship from the NJ Council on the Arts.
