STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME is chosen for Frontiers Festival at Ft. Worth Opera

December 14, 2015. The Ft. Worth Opera announced today the winners of the annual Frontiers opera competition. STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME, Deborah’s opera written with composer Gerald Cohen, was selected by a prestigious panel of opera producers for inclusion in the critically acclaimed festival of new work for the opera stage. Selections from STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME will be performed at Ft. Worth Opera on May 4 & 5, 2016. This is the second time that Deborah’s work has been chosen for Frontiers; the first time was in 2012 for EMBEDDED, her Edgar Allan Poe opera, written with composer Patrick Soluri.

About Deborah Brevoort

Deborah Brevoort is a playwright and librettist from Alaska who now lives in the New York area. She is an alumna of New Dramatists, one of the original company members of Alaska’s Perseverance Theatre, a member of the playwright’s collective at Florida Studio Theatre and a co-founder of Theatre Without Borders, dedicated to international theatre exchange.

After participating in American Lyric Theater’s Composer/Librettist Development Program, Deborah has turned her attention to writing opera librettos. She has penned 10 librettos and now serves as the Librettist Mentor for Washington National Opera’s American Opera Initiative at the Kennedy Center.
