Covered Dishes is a story about two middle-aged women
one white, one black who become suddenly single and embark
on a journey to "find a man." The story follows them as try to
negotiate their way through the middle-aged singles scene.
It is an absurdist comedy a sort of 95 Dates from Hell slant
on the situation that many middle-aged women find themselves in
today. At the end, one of the women finds her man.
The other also finds the man she has been looking for, only to
discover that he is not what she wanted all along.
Covered Dishes was originally developed in a program
for playwrights sponsored by Fox Searchlight, New Dramatists and
Goat Cay Productions (Sigourney Weaver's company). The
screenplay has been through an extensive development process.
It was a finalist for Sundance and received an honorable mention
in the Providence Screenwriting competition.
